حدثنا جيهان بن أبي الحسن، قال: حدثنا بشر بن يحيى، عن محمد بن الحسن رحمة الله عليه، قال: سمعت أبا حنيفة رحمة الله عليه رحمة واسعة، يقول: قالت أمي: رأيت الدم قبل أن يتم لي أيام الطهر فلا أدري أترك الصلاة أم لا؟ فاذهب إلى أبي عبد الرحمن وسله عن هذه المسألة، وانظر ما يقول فيها؟ قال: فذهبت إلى عمر بن ذر فسألته، فقال لي عمر بن ذر: قل أنت فيها، [ثم] حدِّثني بذلك حتى أحدثك [به] على معنى الجواب، ثم أخبِرْ أمَّك بذلك عني، فأخبرتُه بما عندي في المسألة من الجواب، ثم أجابني بذلك، فأتيت أمي فأخبرتُها ذلك عن عمر بن ذر رحمة الله عليهم أجمعين.

Jīhān ibn Abī al-Ḥasan related to us. He said: Bishr ibn Yaḥyā related to us, from Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan, may God have mercy on him, who said: I heard Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have abundant mercy on him, say: My mother said: ‘I saw blood before my days of purity were complete. I do not know whether to stop praying. Go to Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ask him about this question, and see what he says.’ I went to ʿUmar ibn Dharr and asked him. He said to me: ‘State your own view, [then] relate it to me, so that I can relate it [to you] as an answer. Then tell your mother that it comes from me.’ I told him my answer to the question, and he answered me accordingly. I went to my mother and told her this from ʿUmar ibn Dharr. May God have mercy on them all.

حدثنا الربيع بن حسان الكسِّي، قال: حدثنا أبو كريب، قال: حدثنا أسد بن عمرو قال: جاء عمر بن ذر إلى أبي حنيفة رحمه الله فقال: إن جاراً لي شيعياً وقعت له مسألة، وهو يستحي أن يجيء إليك، قال: فقل له حتى يجيء، قال: فجاء عمر بن ذر والرجل معه، فقال: قلت لامرأتي: أنت علي حرام، فقال له أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه: قول صاحبك علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه فيها: أنها ثلاث، قال: لا أريد قول صاحبي أريد قولك، فقال لي: إيش نويت بقولك أنت علي حرام؟ قال: لم أنو شيئاً، قال: ولم تنو الطلاق؟ قال: لا، قال: لا يقع شيء، فقال الرجل: جزاك الله خيراً، وأوجب لك الجنة وإن كرهتُ أنا.

Al-Rabīʿ ibn Ḥassān al-Kassī related to us. He said: Abū Kurayb related to us. He said: Asad ibn ʿAmr related to us. He said: ʿUmar ibn Dharr came to Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on him, and said: ‘A Shīʿī neighbor of mine has a question but is embarrassed to come to you.’ He said: ‘Tell him to come.’ ʿUmar ibn Dharr came with the man, who said: ‘I told my wife: “You are forbidden to me.”’ Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on him, said: ‘Your companion ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib’s view, may God be pleased with him, is that this counts as three.’ He said: ‘I do not want my companion’s view; I want yours.’ He said to me: ‘What did you intend by saying, “You are forbidden to me”?’ He said: ‘I intended nothing.’ He said: ‘You did not intend divorce?’ He said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Nothing takes effect.’ The man said: ‘May God reward you well and grant you Paradise, even if I dislike it.’
The printed shift to “he said to me” and the final concessive phrase are retained.

There was affection between them. When ʿUmar ibn Dharr sat to address people, he would pray for him in his gathering.

حدثنا محمد بن سلام أبو نصر، قال: سمعت بكير بن يحيى، يقول: سمعت محمد بن سماعة، يقول: سمعت أبا يوسف، يقول: كان عمر بن ذر يقول: أبو حنيفة يتكلم بالعدل، قال: وسمعت أبا يوسف يقول: كان عمر بن ذر يقول: ما حضرنا موضعاً من المواضع مع أبي حنيفة رحمة الله عليه إلا غلب الجميع بفقهه وعلمه وورعه.

He said: I heard Bukayr ibn Yaḥyā say: I heard Muḥammad ibn Samāʿa say: I heard Abū Yūsuf say: ʿUmar ibn Dharr used to say: ‘Abū Ḥanīfa speaks with justice.’ He said: I also heard Abū Yūsuf say that ʿUmar ibn Dharr used to say: ‘Wherever we were with Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on him, he surpassed everyone through his jurisprudence, knowledge, and scrupulousness.’

حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا أسباط بن اليسع، قال: أخبرني الجنيد بن المرزبان، قال: قال أبو حنيفة رحمه الله: ربما ذهبت بأمي إلى مجلس عمر بن ذر، وإذا ابتُليت أمي بشيء فقالت لي: اذهب إلى عمر بن ذر فاسأله عنها، فأتيت عمر فقلت: إن أمي ابتليت بكذا وكذا، فأمرتني أن آتيك فأسألك عنها، فقال لي عمر بن ذر: وأنت تسألني عن هذا؟ قال: إن أمي أمرتني ولها حق، قال: فقل لي: كيف هو حتى أخبرك؟ فأخبرته بالجواب، فأخبرني، فأتيت الوالدة فأخبرتها أن عمر قال كذا وكذا.

My father related to us. He said: Asbāṭ ibn al-Yasaʿ related to us. He said: al-Junayd ibn al-Marzubān informed me. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on him, said: Sometimes I took my mother to ʿUmar ibn Dharr’s gathering. When something troubled her, she said to me: ‘Go to ʿUmar ibn Dharr and ask him about it.’ I went to ʿUmar and said: ‘My mother has been troubled by such-and-such, and she instructed me to come and ask you.’ ʿUmar ibn Dharr said: ‘You ask me about this?’ He said: ‘My mother instructed me, and she has a right.’ He said: ‘Tell me how it is, so I can inform you.’ I told him the answer, and he informed me. I went to my mother and told her that ʿUmar had said such-and-such.

He said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī related to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Naṣr ibn Ḥājib, who said: Abū Ḥanīfa used to attend ʿUmar ibn Dharr’s gathering when he preached, seeing no harm in it. One day they saw him listening in his gathering with tears flowing from his eyes.

أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن علي بن بزيغ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جنيد، قال: سمعت ابن أبي حماد يذكر عن شيبان، قال: رأيت مسعراً، وعمر بن ذر، وأبا حنيفة أتَوْا عاصم بن أبي النجود، فحفى بهم، وقرَّبهم، وسألوه عن حديث ليلة القدر، وحديث صفوان بن عسال، وغيره من حديثه، قال ابن جنيد: وكان عاصم يؤمن بالإرجاء.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad informed us: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Bazīʿ related to us: Muḥammad ibn Junayd related to us: I heard Ibn Abī Ḥammād relate from Shaybān, who said: I saw Misʿar, ʿUmar ibn Dharr, and Abū Ḥanīfa visit ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd. He welcomed them warmly and brought them close. They asked him about the account of the Night of Decree, the account of Ṣafwān ibn ʿAssāl, and other accounts he transmitted. Ibn Junayd said: ʿĀṣim believed in irjāʾ.
