He said: Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Qays ibn Muslim, from Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, may God be pleased with him: The Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, said: “God, mighty and majestic, has sent down no disease without sending down a remedy for it, except death and old age. Take cows’ milk, for they mix their feed from every kind of tree.”

The feminine plural verb in the final clause refers to cows; the Arabic speaks elliptically of their varied feeding.

Muḥammad ibn al-Layth ibn Saʿīd al-Sarakhsī related to us. He said: Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb related to me. He said: I heard ʿĪsā ibn Naṣr say: I heard ʿUmāra say: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAlqama, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, may God be pleased with him, That he attended to the Messenger of God’s cloak, mount, toothstick and private affairs, peace and blessings be upon him. Whenever the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, entered his house, he would send his mother, Umm ʿAbd, to enter the Prophet’s house and observe his conduct, manner and bearing. She would tell ʿAbd Allāh about these, so that he could imitate him.

The source’s unusual والدة أم عبد is rendered as his mother, Umm ʿAbd, without silently expanding her identity.

Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Hammām al-Sabzawārī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Yazīd related to us. He said: ʿĀmir ibn al-Furāt al-Nasawī related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, taught us the marriage sermon: “Praise belongs to God. I praise Him, seek His help, believe in Him and rely upon Him. We seek refuge in God from the evil within ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whomever God guides, none can lead astray; whomever He leads astray, none can guide. I testify that there is no god but God alone, without partner, and that Muḥammad is His servant and messenger. ‘You who believe! Be mindful of God, in whose name you ask one another, and of ties of kinship. God is ever watchful over you’ [al-Nisāʾ: 1]. ‘You who believe! Be mindful of God as He deserves, and do not die except as Muslims’ [Āl ʿImrān: 102]. ‘You who believe! Be mindful of God and speak upright words. He will set your deeds right for you and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys God and His Messenger has attained a tremendous triumph’ [al-Aḥzāb: 70].”

The first Qurʾānic quotation and verse references follow the supplied Arabic, without silently harmonizing them to the standard verse text.
