Ibrāhīm ibn Manṣūr al-Bukhārī and others related to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, who said: I heard Abū Wahb say: I heard ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rawwād say: The adherents of opinion are enemies of the Sunna. He said: “[They are] the Ḥarūriyya and the followers of sectarian inclinations.”

Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn Sulaymān and ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim, both of Marw, and others related to us. They said: We heard Abū ʿIṣma Saʿd ibn Muʿādh say: I heard Abū Wahb say: I said to my brother Sahl ibn Muzāḥim: ‘Is Sufyān more learned in jurisprudence, or Abū Ḥanīfa?’ He said: ‘Abū Ḥanīfa.’ I said: ‘Is Sufyān more learned, or Abū Yūsuf?’ He said: ‘Abū Yūsuf.’ I said: ‘Is Sufyān more learned, or Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan?’ He said: ‘Leave this; it has become unseemly.’ Abū ʿĀṣim said: I asked Abū ʿIṣma: ‘Which was more learned in jurisprudence?’ He said: ‘Sufyān was more knowledgeable in hadith, while books and jurisprudence emerged from Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan that did not emerge from Sufyān.’

Al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbbād related to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rizma, who said: I heard Abū Wahb say: I heard Zufar say: Sufyān and Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on them both, were mentioned in his presence. Zufar said: ‘Sufyān was not one of Abū Ḥanīfa’s men.’
