Kemālpaşazāde
Tarājim baʿḍ al-Aḥnāf
Anatolia and Rumelia gave Hanafi scholarship an important place in Ottoman teaching and judicial institutions. A scholar’s career could move between a madrasa, a judgeship and the capital. This regional page therefore connects scholarly writing with institutions and careers, rather than with one city alone.
Al-Kafawi’s career makes these connections visible: he studied in Istanbul and held teaching and judicial appointments, including in Kefe and Gallipoli. His concern with identifying teachers and students also shaped his biographical writing, linking an Ottoman scholarly present to the earlier Hanafi tradition.

مصطفى صبريMuṣṭafā ṢabrīThe regional catalogue includes short tabaqat works, an abridgment of al-Jawahir al-Mudiyya and al-Kafawi’s Kata’ib A‘lam al-Akhyar. These are different ways of organising the school’s past: selecting lives, shortening a major reference work, or tracing groups of jurists and their teachers.
Arabic and Ottoman Turkish works appear together here. The later Turkish manaqib titles show that accounts of Abu Hanifa continued to be recast for new readers. Language, genre and dependence on earlier books are therefore as important to comparison as the author’s date or place.
