Abū Muʿādh ʿĪsā ibn Khālid al-Aṣamm al-Rāzī al-Azraq

Muḥammad ibn Rajjāz ibn Quraysh related to us. He said: Al-Mukhtār ibn Sābiq al-Ḥanẓalī related to us, from ʿĪsā al-Azraq, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from al-ʿArzamī, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet, God bless him and grant him peace, used to kiss, not perform ablution, and pray.

Al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAzīz al-Qaṭṭān al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Al-Naḍr ibn Muḥammad and ʿĪsā ibn Khālid al-Aṣamm related to us. They said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad—God have mercy on them—who said: I accompanied ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, God be pleased with him, for two years and did not see him performing qunūt in the dawn prayer.

Qunūt is a standing supplication within prayer.

Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Sarakhsī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Muqātil related to us. He said: ʿĪsā ibn Khālid related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm—God have mercy on them— that ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, God be pleased with him, mentioned the testimony recited in prayer. He then mentioned in his report that he disliked adding a single letter to it or omitting a single letter from it.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Hamdānī al-Kūfī related to us. He said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿUtba related to us. He said: Ḥukkām ibn Salm related to us, from ʿĪsā al-Azraq Abū Muʿādh, who said: I saw Abū Ḥanīfa when two men from al-Jazira came to him with four thousand questions. One would put the questions and the other would write. I was feverish and said: “If you put this to an entire household, it could not cope with it.” He replied: “I do not blame you; you are feverish.”

The terse ما يوافيها is understood in context as being unable to cope with the questions; no unstated number of answers or time period is supplied.

Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan related to me. He said: My father related to us, from my grandfather, from ʿĪsā al-Azraq, from Abū Ḥanīfa, Ibn Jurayj, Mālik ibn Anas, ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥasan and Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūba, that they said: “Whether he reads the book to you or you read it, it is the same, and you say: ‘He related to me.’” He said: Ibrāhīm al-Ṣāʾigh said: “When he reads to you, you say: ‘He related to me’ and ‘I heard’; when you read, you say: ‘He informed me.’”
