Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Sharqī al-Naysābūrī related to us: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us: Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Asadī related to us: Yāsīn al-Zayyāt was exceedingly devoted to Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him. Once he began speaking of him, he could scarcely stop.
حدثنا عبد الله بن عبيد الله، وعمرو بن عاصم المروزي، وأبو بكر محمد بن همام، قالوا: حدثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يزيد النيسابوري، قال: سمعت حماد بن قيراط، يقول: سمعت ياسين الزيات، يقول:أصحاب الرأي أعداء السنة، قال: أصحاب الرأي أصحاب الأهواء، فأما أبو حنيفة وأصحابه رحمة الله عليهم فإنهم قاسوا على السنة.

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim al-Marwazī, and Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Hammām related to us: They said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Yazīd al-Naysābūrī related to us: I heard Ḥammād ibn Qīrāṭ say: I heard Yāsīn al-Zayyāt say: ‘The people of opinion are enemies of the Sunna.’ He said: ‘The people of opinion are the people of whims. As for Abū Ḥanīfa and his companions—may God have mercy on them—they reasoned by analogy on the basis of the Sunna.’

حدثنا جيهان بن أبي الحسن، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر الكوفي، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم، عن ياسين الزيات، قال:وقعت لي مسألة مهمة في جوف الليل، ولم يكن لي بد من أن أسأل عنها، قال: فأتيت أبا حنيفة رحمة الله عليه فاستأذنت عليه، فأذن لي، فدخلت عليه وهو قائم يصلي، فانتظرته حتى فرغ من صلاته، ثم ذكرت له المسألة، فأجابني عنها وفرّج عني، فإني لأدعو له في دبر كل صلاة كما أدعو لنفسي لحاجة المسلمين إليه.

Jayhān ibn Abī al-Ḥasan related to us: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar al-Kūfī related to us: Ibrāhīm related to us, from Yāsīn al-Zayyāt, who said: An important question arose for me in the middle of the night, and I had to ask about it. I went to Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—and asked permission to enter. He granted it, and I went in while he was standing in prayer. I waited until he finished, then put the question to him. He answered it and relieved my difficulty. I pray for him after every prayer just as I pray for myself, because of the Muslims’ need for him.
حدثنا أبو محمد عبد الرحمن بن يحيى بن معاذ النسوي، قال: حدثنا أبو أمية محمد بن إبراهيم، قال: حدثنا الوضاح بن حسان الأنباري، قال: حدثني الوزير بن عبد الله، قال:سمعت ياسين الزيات بمكة، وعنده جماعة عظيمة وهو يصيح بأعلى صوته، ويقول: يا أيها الناسّ! اختلفوا إلى أبي حنيفة، واغتنموا مجالسته، وخذوا من علمه، فإنكم لم تجالسوا مثله ولم تجدوا أعلم بالحلال والحرام منه، فإنكم إن فقدتموه فقدتم علماً كثيراً، وكان أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه يحج في تلك السنة.

Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaḥyā ibn Muʿādh al-Nasawī related to us: Abū Umayya Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm related to us: al-Waḍḍāḥ ibn Ḥassān al-Anbārī related to us: al-Wazīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to me: I heard Yāsīn al-Zayyāt in Mecca, with a great crowd around him, calling out at the top of his voice: ‘People! Visit Abū Ḥanīfa regularly, seize the opportunity to sit with him, and learn from his knowledge. You have never sat with anyone like him, nor found anyone more knowledgeable about the lawful and unlawful. If you lose him, you will lose a great deal of knowledge.’ Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—was making the pilgrimage that year.
