أبو سليمان (report 2212; identity unresolved)

Related to us: Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn Sulaymān al-Marwazī, ʿImrān ibn Farīnām, Ibrāhīm ibn Manṣūr and another; they said: We heard Abū ʿIṣma Saʿd ibn Muʿādh saying: I heard: Abū Sulaymān saying: I heard: Muḥammad ibn Jābir saying: We used to sit with Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān, and Abū Ḥanīfa would discuss matters with him. When he disagreed with him, he would press him in the discussion. Sometimes Ḥammād would say: “What can I do? This is an opinion Ibrāhīm used to express.” Sometimes he would say: “What can I do? It is an opinion Ibrāhīm informed me of, from so-and-so, for one of his companions.” Sometimes he would say: “It is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd’s opinion, and Ibrāhīm informed me of it.” He said: He would thus make it a report and memorize it.

The printed li-baʿḍ aṣḥābihi is retained as “for one of his companions”; it has not been changed to the variant “from one of his companions”.
