أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد بن سعيد الهمداني، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبيد بن عتبة، قال: حدثنا حسن بن صالح بن أبي الدواهي، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن خالد، عن رباح بن زيد الصنعاني، عن أبي حنيفة، عن الحكم، عن مقسم، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: الفيء الجماع.

Informed us: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Hamadhānī; he said: related to us: Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUtba; he said: related to us: Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Abī al-Dawāhī; he said: related to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Khālid, from Rabāḥ ibn Zayd al-Ṣanʿānī, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from al-Ḥakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās—may God be pleased with them both—who said: The return is sexual intercourse.
Al-fayʾ, “the return”, is a technical term for resuming marital relations after an oath of abstinence.
