حدثنا عبد الله بن عبيد الله، قال: حدثنا شيبة بن هشام أبو سعيد السرخسي، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن شقيق، قال: قال عبد الله: حدثني وهيب أو غيره، عن أبي حنيفة رضي الله عنه، قال:رأيت أيوب السختياني دنا من القبر فقلت: لأنظرن، قال: أردت أن أتعلق بشيء، قال: فجعل القبلة خلف ظهره، وجعل وجهه إلى وجوههم، قال: ثم بكى بكاء كثيرا، قال أبو حنيفة رضي الله عنه: لقد قف شعري مما رأيته يفعل فما زلت أحبه بعد.

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh related to us. He said: Shayba ibn Hishām, Abū Saʿīd al-Sarakhsī, related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shaqīq related to us. He said: ʿAbd Allāh said: Wuhayb, or someone else, related to me, from Abū Ḥanīfa, may God be pleased with him, who said: I saw Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī approach the grave, and I said: “I shall watch.” He said: I wanted to hold on to something. He said: He put the qibla behind his back and turned his face toward their faces. He said: Then he wept profusely. Abū Ḥanīfa, may God be pleased with him, said: “My hair stood on end at what I saw him do, and I continued to love him thereafter.”
The Arabic has the plural “their faces”; the referent is not expanded or silently changed to the singular.
حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن سعد، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن بديل، قال: حدثني على بن الحسن بن شقيق الخراساني، قال:سئل ابن المبارك عن مسألة فأفتى بقول أبي حنيفة رحمة الله عليه، فقال له رجل: إن شريكاً قال فيها كذا وكذا، فقال ابن المبارك: مه ما لشريك ولمثل هذا! خذوا العلم من أهله.

ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd related to us. He said: Aḥmad ibn Budayl related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shaqīq al-Khurāsānī related to me. He said: Ibn al-Mubārak was asked a question and answered according to Abū Ḥanīfa’s view, may God have mercy on him. A man said to him: ‘Sharīk said such-and-such about it.’ Ibn al-Mubārak said: ‘Stop! What has Sharīk to do with something like this? Take knowledge from its people.’

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh related to us: Shayba ibn Hishām Abū Saʿīd related to us, from ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shaqīq, who said: Ibn ʿUyayna said: I entered upon Abū Ḥanīfa while Musāwir the poet was with him. He spoke, mentioning the three verses we have already cited.
The Arabic refers back to the verses rather than repeating them; the translation preserves that abbreviation.
