ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs

Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Sahl the Qurʾān commentator al-Marwazī related to us: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Qaṣrī related to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm—may God have mercy on them: Concerning a testamentary guardian holding an orphan’s property, he said, ‘The guardian may trade with it and share the profit with him.’

Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī related to us: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Qaṣrī related to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs related to us: I heard Abū Ḥanīfa transmitting from al-Zuhrī. I asked him, ‘Did you meet al-Zuhrī?’ He said, ‘Yes.’

Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī related to us: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā related to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs related to us: I heard Abū Ḥanīfa say, ‘The witr prayer is not to be abandoned under any circumstances.’

Jayhān ibn Khayb al-Farghānī related to us: Bishr ibn Yaḥyā related to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs said to me: Tell the people of Khurasan that they have been singled out for Abū Ḥanīfa’s knowledge—may God have mercy on him. Had we known at the outset what we learned later, we would never have left him.

The short name خيب is transliterated as supplied, without substituting a different patronymic.

Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā al-Naysābūrī wrote to me: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj related to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Idrīs, from Abū Ḥanīfa—may God be pleased with him—who said: I said to Ḥammād, ‘A man says: If anything happens to me in my illness, my slave is free, and I owe so-and-so such-and-such.’ He said, ‘This is effective against the whole estate, except for the slave whose emancipation is made contingent upon the master’s death.’

The final exception renders al-mudabbar; the entry does not state further rules for calculating that emancipation.
