حدثنا محمد بن يزيد، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن عثمان، قال: حدثنا حماد بن أبي حنيفة، قال سأل أبي حماداً عن رجل، قال: إن تزوجت فلانة فهي طالق، قال: إذا تزوج امرأة فهي طالق. قال: فإن قال: كل امرأة أتزوجها فهي طالق، قال: إذا تزوج لم تطلق. قال: إذا أكد على نفسه يسّر عليه، وإذا يسر على نفسه أكد عليه، قال: فسكت حماد، فلما قام أبو حنيفة قال: هذا مع فقهه يحيي الليل.

Muḥammad ibn Yazīd related to us. He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān related to us. He said: Ḥammād ibn Abī Ḥanīfa related to us. He said: My father asked Ḥammād about a man who said: ‘If I marry so-and-so, she is divorced.’ He said: ‘If he marries a woman, she is divorced.’ He said: ‘What if he says: “Every woman I marry is divorced”?’ He said: ‘If he marries, she is not divorced.’ He said: ‘When he makes things difficult for himself, he is given ease; when he makes things easy for himself, things are made difficult for him.’ Ḥammād fell silent. When Abū Ḥanīfa rose, he said: ‘Along with his jurisprudence, this man keeps the night alive in worship.’
