حدثنا عمران بن فرينام، قال: سمعت سعد بن معاذ، قال: سمعت أبا سلمان يذكر عن حفص بن غياث، أو يحيى بن زكريا ـ شك أبو عصمة ـ، قال: لما مات حماد رحمة الله عليه اجتمع أصحاب حماد إلى أبي حنيفة، فقالوا له: اجلس لنا، قال: فقال أبو حنيفة: أجِلس على أن يضمن لي عشرة منكم أنِ يلزموني سنة، قال: فضمنوا له ووفَّوا، قال: وكان أبو إسحاق الشيباني ممن وفَّى به.

ʿImrān ibn Firīnām related to us. He said: I heard Saʿd ibn Muʿādh say: I heard Abū Salmān relate from Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth or Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā—Abū ʿIṣma was uncertain—who said: When Ḥammād died, may God have mercy on him, his companions gathered around Abū Ḥanīfa and said: ‘Sit and teach us.’ Abū Ḥanīfa said: ‘I will sit on condition that ten of you guarantee to stay with me for a year.’ They guaranteed it and fulfilled their promise. Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī was among those who fulfilled it.
The uncertainty between two transmitters and the printed form Abū Salmān are retained.
