He said: al-Naḍr ibn Muḥammad related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Jāmiʿ ibn Shaddād, may God have mercy on them, from a man of Banū al-Ḥārith, who said: We camped beside Medina. The Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, bought a slaughter camel from us for a wasq of dates. When he disappeared among the houses, we said: “We have handed it over to a man we do not know.” An old woman of ours said: “I saw the face of a man whom God would never clothe in treachery.” Soon he sent for them and summoned them. Then he ordered dates to be spread on a leather mat and said: “Eat.” They ate until they were full, then he paid them in full. The people said: “We have never seen such full payment as today.”
Wasq is the measure named in the Arabic; its amount is not supplied by the report.
