Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb al-ʿĀbid

Aḥmad ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ related to us: Muḥammad ibn Shujāʿ related to us: Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb the worshipper related to me: Ibn al-Sammāk related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from al-Haytham—may God have mercy on them—from Anas—may God be pleased with him—who said: The Messenger of God—God bless him and grant him peace—said: ‘Whoever fasts a day in God’s path, God places between him and the Fire, through that day’s fast, a trench whose distance is five hundred years.’

Aḥmad ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ related to us: Muḥammad ibn Shujāʿ related to us: I heard Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb the worshipper say: I heard Ibn al-Sammāk say: Kufa’s pillars are four: Sufyān al-Thawrī, Mālik ibn Mighwal, Dāwūd al-Ṭāʾī, the companion of Abū Ḥanīfa, and Abū Bakr al-Nahshalī. All of them sat with Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—and transmitted from him.
