محمد بن عبدة (report 2153-2; identity unresolved)

ʿAmr ibn ʿĀṣim al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbda related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Manṣūr, a man from Jurjan, related to us. He said: Ibrāhīm al-Ghundarī, the jurist of the people of Jurjan, related to me. He said: We were in Abū Ḥanīfa’s gathering when a man rose and asked him a question. Abū Ḥanīfa gave him a ruling on it. After Abū Ḥanīfa rose, I went to Sufyān’s gathering and found the questioner with him, asking him the very same question. He gave an answer contrary to Abū Ḥanīfa’s position. When the man left, I said to Sufyān: “Abū Ḥanīfa was asked about these questions and answered differently from you.” He asked: “How did he answer?” I replied: “Such-and-such.” He said nothing. Later a man came to him and asked that very question, and he answered the man with Abū Ḥanīfa’s answer, God have mercy on him.
