حدثنا معمر بن محمد بن معمر أبو شهاب البلخي، قال: حدثنا عمي شهاب بن معمر، قال: سمعت محمد بن مروان، يقول: رأى الكلبي أبا حنيفة رحمة الله عليه، فقال لجلسائه: ترون هذا، والله ما سألني أحدٌ عن شيء إلا سهُل عليَّ جوابُه إلا هذا، فإن كل سؤال سألنيه كان أثقل عليَّ من جبل.

Maʿmar ibn Muḥammad ibn Maʿmar Abū Shihāb al-Balkhī related to us: My uncle Shihāb ibn Maʿmar related to us: I heard Muḥammad ibn Marwān say: Al-Kalbī saw Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—and said to those sitting with him, ‘Do you see this man? By God, no one ever asked me about anything without my finding it easy to answer, except this man. Every question he asked me weighed more heavily on me than a mountain.’
