حدثني رجاء بن سويد النسفي، قال: حدثنا الفتح بن عمرو الوراق، قال: أخبرنا الحسن بن زياد، قال: قال يحيى بن يعقوب لأبي حنيفة رحمة الله عليه: إني سمعت أحاديث من جماعة من المشايخ، فأريد أن أعرضها عليك، فبيِّن لي المأخوذ منها من غير المأخوذ؟ فقال له أبو حنيفة: يا أبا طالب! كن على مذهبك أنت فيه من ذكر الناس وعظتهم، فإنه أسلم لك.

Rajāʾ ibn Suwayd al-Nasafī related to me: al-Fatḥ ibn ʿAmr al-Warrāq related to us: al-Ḥasan ibn Ziyād informed us: Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿqūb said to Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—‘I have heard reports from a number of shaykhs and wish to present them to you. Would you distinguish for me what should be accepted from what should not?’ Abū Ḥanīfa said to him, ‘Abū Ṭālib, continue on your own path of reminding and admonishing people; that is safer for you.’
