Related to us: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan; he said: related to us: Bishr ibn al-Walīd; he said: I heard: Abū Yūsuf and a group of people from Baghdad, who said: While Abū Ḥanīfa was walking, he heard children shouting: “This is Abū Ḥanīfa, who stands in prayer all night and does not sleep.” He said to himself: “Abū Ḥanīfa, people suppose something of you that is not true of you. I therefore vow to God that I shall not lay my side down at night, except because of illness, until I meet God, mighty and majestic.”
