أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن جعفر الخلال، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن سليمان التيمي، قال: حدثنا علي بن أبي المغيرة الزبيدي، عن بسام الصيرفي، قال: سأل أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه أبا جعفر عن حديث علي حين دخل علي على عمر رضي الله عنهما حين وُضِعَ على سريره، قال: فقال: ما أحد من الناس أحب إلى أن ألقى الله بصحيفته من هذا المسجَّى بين أظهركم.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad informed us: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Jaʿfar al-Khallāl related to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Sulaymān al-Taymī related to us: ʿAlī ibn Abī al-Mughīra al-Zubaydī related to us, from Bassām al-Ṣayrafī, who said: Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—asked Abū Jaʿfar about the account of ʿAlī, when ʿAlī entered upon ʿUmar—may God be pleased with them both—after he had been laid on his bier. He said: He said, ‘There is no one whose record I would rather meet God with than this man lying shrouded among you.’
