Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Kūfī related to us. He said: ʿUbayd ibn Ḥamdūn related to us. He said: Ḥasan ibn Ṭarīf related to us, from his father, from al-Ḥakam, from Bilāl ibn Abī Bilāl, who said: Abū Ḥanīfa used to stay up with a group of his companions at Ḥammād’s, discussing jurisprudence. Ḥammād had a rooster that crowed early in the night. Its crowing was the signal between Ḥammād and his companions. When it crowed, Ḥammād rose, and Abū Ḥanīfa would say: ‘What a rooster you are—may God make you ugly! You have cut off our discussion. The worst rooster is one that crows early in the night.’
حدثنا أحمد بن محمد، قال: حدثنا عبيد بن حمدون، قال: حدثنا حسن بن طريف، قال: سمعت أبي، يقول:رأيت في وجه أبي حنيفة أثراً من السجود خفياً.
