al-Faḍl ibn Jaʿfar Abū Sahl

Abū Ḥamza Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Yūsuf al-Nasawī related to us. He said: al-Faḍl ibn Jaʿfar, Abū Sahl, related to us. He said: Abū ʿĀṣim was asked: ‘Which of the two men is more learned in jurisprudence in your view, Abū Ḥanīfa or Sufyān?’ Abū ʿĀṣim said to the questioner: ‘You did not meet them?’ He said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Ignorant man! Abū Ḥanīfa’s youngest pupil is more learned in jurisprudence than Sufyān.’
