Related to us: Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Balkhī; he said: I heard: Isḥāq ibn Abī Isrāʾīl saying: I heard: my father saying: Abū Ḥanīfa was generous and supported his companions abundantly. He treated them kindly at the festivals, sending to each according to his standing. He arranged marriage for anyone who needed it, paid from his own resources and attended to their needs. He was scrupulous and ascetic, constantly fasting and standing in prayer, reciting God’s Book, mighty and majestic, and knowledgeable about its contents. He was unsurpassed in jurisprudence; no one like him in his discipline had been heard of.
