Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd al-Rāzī

Muḥammad ibn Qudāma related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥuṣayn related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from ʿAṭāʾ—God have mercy on them—who said: I asked Ibn ʿUmar, God be pleased with them both: “Is jihad an obligation?” He replied: “Yes.” I asked: “Is abandoning it unbelief?” He replied: “No; abandoning it is a sin.” I then went up to him and kissed his head.

Muḥammad ibn Qudāma related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd al-Rāzī related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Mujāhid related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Jāmiʿ ibn Abī Rāshid, from Ziyād ibn Ḥudayr al-Asadī, who said: Among the instructions left by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, God be pleased with him—he had ordered Ṣuhayb to gather the Muslims for him and to have most of those [who] entered upon him be the Helpers; he did so, and they entered upon him—he said: “I have entrusted your affair to six of the Emigrants. The Prophet, peace be upon him, died while pleased with them.” He named them. “I have given them a period of three days to choose for themselves and for the community. If the people agree upon one of them and one refuses to pledge allegiance, stand with the four. If three choose one and a man chooses his companion, stand with the three. If two men choose a man and three choose one of their own, stand with the three among whom is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.”

Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Naṣr al-Rāzī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Mujāhid related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm—God have mercy on them: The Prophet, God bless him and grant him peace, trotted from the Stone to the Stone.

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Sarakhsī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Mujāhid related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Ziyād, tracing it up to the Prophet, peace be upon him: He commanded sincere counsel for every Muslim.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad informed us. He said: Yaʿqūb ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ al-Iṣbahānī wrote to me. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Mujāhid related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Jāmiʿ ibn Abī Rāshid, from Ziyād ibn Ḥudayr, who said: Among the instructions left by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, God be pleased with him—and he mentioned a report similar to the first.

Al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAzīz al-Qaṭṭān al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Al-Naḍr ibn Muḥammad and ʿĪsā ibn Khālid al-Aṣamm related to us. They said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad—God have mercy on them—who said: I accompanied ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, God be pleased with him, for two years and did not see him performing qunūt in the dawn prayer.

Qunūt is a standing supplication within prayer.

Al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAzīz al-Qaṭṭān al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mukhtār al-Rāzī related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Khālid ibn ʿAlqama, from ʿAbd Khayr—God have mercy on them—from ʿAlī, God be pleased with him, that he called for water and performed ablution. He washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth and drew water into his nose three times each, washed his face and forearms three times each, wiped his head three times, and washed his feet [three times]. He said: “This is the ablution of the Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace.”

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sarakhsī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Hārūn ibn al-Mughīra related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm—God have mercy on them—who said: The companions of Muḥammad, God bless him and grant him peace, never agreed as they agreed on offering the dawn prayer when it has grown light and hastening the sunset prayer.

Ṣāliḥ ibn Abī Rumayḥ wrote to me. He said: Ibn al-Bāghandī related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Mujāhid related to us. He said: Ashʿath ibn Isḥāq related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, God be pleased with them both, who said: The Prophet, peace be upon him, was shrouded in a red two-piece garment.
