أبا الدرداء

Al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAzīz al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Bishr ibn Yaḥyā related to us. He said: al-Naḍr ibn Muḥammad related to us. He said: Abū Ḥanīfa, may God have mercy on him, informed us. He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥabība, may God have mercy on him, related to us. He said: I heard Abū al-Dardāʾ, may God be pleased with him, say: While I was riding behind the Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, he said: “Abū al-Dardāʾ! Whoever testifies that there is no god but God and that I am God’s Messenger is assured Paradise.” I asked him: “Even if he commits illicit intercourse and steals?” He did not answer me, then traveled for a while and said: “Whoever testifies that there is no god but God and that I am God’s Messenger is assured Paradise.” I asked: “Even if he commits illicit intercourse and steals?” He did not answer me, then traveled for a while and said: “Whoever testifies that there is no god but God and that I am God’s Messenger is assured Paradise.” I asked: “Even if he commits illicit intercourse and steals?” He replied: “Even if he commits illicit intercourse and steals, though Abū al-Dardāʾ’s nose be rubbed in dust.” He said: It is as though I can see Abū al-Dardāʾ’s index finger pointing at his nose.
