ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad informed us: Makram narrated to us: Aḥmad ibn ʿAṭiyya narrated to us: ʿAlī ibn Maʿbad narrated to us: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar narrated to us: We were with al-Aʿmash while he asked Abū Ḥanīfa questions and Abū Ḥanīfa answered him. Al-Aʿmash would ask: Where did you get this? He would reply: You narrated to us such-and-such from Ibrāhīm, and such-and-such from al-Shaʿbī. At that al-Aʿmash would say: You jurists are the physicians, and we are the pharmacists.
