Saʿd, father of Mālik (printed “أبي”)

Mūsā ibn Abī Ḥātim al-Firyābī related to us: Ibrāhīm ibn Yūsuf ibn Yaʿqūb al-Kūfī related to us: Mālik ibn Saʿd related to us: My father owned many estates and entrusted them to people under sharecropping arrangements. Then he heard that Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—considered sharecropping invalid and defective. He sent me to ask him about it. I asked, and he ruled that it was invalid. I returned and reported his answer, which distressed my father. He went to him personally and asked about it, and received the same answer. My father then abandoned sharecropping.
