أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد، قال: حدثنا يحيى بن زكريا بن شيبان، قال: حدثنا مروان بن عبيد بن سالم بن أبي حفصة، قال: سمعت أبي، يقول: سمعت كثير النوّاء، يقول: كنت أنا وأبو حنيفة والحسن بن عمارة عند أبي جعفر، فسأله أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه عن قول علي رضي الله عنه حين وُضع عمرُ رضي الله عنه على سريره، قال: فقال علي: ما أحد من الناس [أحب إليَّ] أن ألقى [الله] بمثل صحيفته من صحيفة هذا المسجَّى.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad informed us: Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā ibn Shaybān related to us: Marwān ibn ʿUbayd ibn Sālim ibn Abī Ḥafṣa related to us: I heard my father say: I heard Kathīr al-Nawwāʾ say: Abū Ḥanīfa, al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUmāra, and I were with Abū Jaʿfar. Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—asked him about what ʿAlī—may God be pleased with him—said when ʿUmar—may God be pleased with him—was laid on his bier. He said: ʿAlī said, ‘There is no one whose record I would [rather] meet [God] with than the record of this shrouded man.’
