حدثنا محمد بن المنذر بن سعيد الهروي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن أسامة الكلبي أبو أسامة الكلبي، قال: حدثني عثمان بن أبي شيبة، قال: حدثنا أبو داود الحفري، قال: حدثنا أيوب بن النعمان الأنصاري، قال:رأى أبو حنيفة سلمة بن كهيل وزبيداً وأبا قيس الأودي من بعيد استقبلوه في الطريق، فأسرع أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه [نحوهم] إجلالاً لهم، فقالوا له: رويدك يا أبا حنيفة فإنه لا يلتمس من الفقهاء مثل هذا، فالتقوا فصافحوه، وقاموا معه طويلاً يكلمونه ثم فارقوه.

Muḥammad ibn al-Mundhir ibn Saʿīd al-Harawī related to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Usāma al-Kalbī, Abū Usāma al-Kalbī, related to us: ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shayba related to me: Abū Dāwūd al-Ḥafarī related to us: Ayyūb ibn al-Nuʿmān al-Anṣārī related to us: Abū Ḥanīfa saw Salama ibn Kuhayl, Zubayd, and Abū Qays al-Awdī approaching him on the road from a distance. Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—hurried [toward them] out of respect. They said, ‘Easy, Abū Ḥanīfa! Such things are not expected of jurists.’ They met, shook his hand, and stood speaking with him for a long time before parting from him.

كتب إليَّ صالح بن أبي رميح، قال: حدثنا أبو أسامة الكلبي بالكوفة، قال: حدثنا عمر بن حفص بن غياث، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا أبو حنيفة، عن حماد، عن إبراهيم، عن الأسود، عن عائشة رضي الله عنها، عن النبي ﷺ، قال:«رفع القلم عن ثلاثة: عن الصبي حتى يكبر، وعن المجنون حتى يعقل، وعن النائم حتى يستيقظ».

Ṣāliḥ ibn Abī Rumayḥ wrote to me: Abū Usāma al-Kalbī related to us in Kufa: ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth related to us: My father related to us: Abū Ḥanīfa related to us, from Ḥammād, from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾisha—may God be pleased with her—from the Prophet—God bless him and grant him peace—who said: ‘The pen has been lifted from three: from the child until he grows up, from the insane person until he regains reason, and from the sleeper until he wakes.’
