حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن القاسم البلخي، قال: حدثنا وهب بن إبراهيم القاضي، قال: حدثنا خلف بن أيوب الكوفي، قال: كنت أختلف إلى مجالس العلماء، فربما سمعت شيئاً لا أعرف معناه فيغمني، فإذا انصرفت إلى مجلس أبي حنيفة رحمة الله عليه سألته عما كنت لا أعرفه، فيفسر لي ذلك، فدخل في قلبي من بيانه وتفسيره النّور.

Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Balkhī related to us: Wahb ibn Ibrāhīm the judge related to us: Khalaf ibn Ayyūb al-Kūfī related to us: I used to attend scholars’ gatherings. Sometimes I heard something whose meaning I did not know, and it troubled me. When I went to Abū Ḥanīfa’s gathering—may God have mercy on him—I asked him about what I had not understood, and he explained it to me. Through his elucidation and explanation, light entered my heart.
