حدثتُ عن محمد بن النضر، قال: حدثنا محمد بن حفص الجرجاني، قال: حدثنا أبو علي، قال: حدثنا أبو الخطاب الجرجاني، قال: كنت عند أبي حنيفة وهو في مجلسه، وعنده أصحابه، قال: فجاء غلام أو شاب، فألقى عليه مسألة فأجابه فيها، فقال له: أخطأت يا أبا حنيفة، قال: فسكت ثم ألقى عليه أيضًا فأجاب، فقال: أخطأت يا أبا حنيفة، قال: فقلت لمن حوله من أصحابه: سبحان الله! لا تعظمون هذا الشيخ ولا تبجلونه، يجيء شاب أو غلام فيخطئه وأنتم سكوت، قال: فالتفت إليّ أبو حنيفة فقال: دعهم فإني قد عوّدتهم هذا من نفسي.

It was related to me from Muḥammad ibn al-Naḍr. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥafṣ al-Jurjānī related to us. He said: Abū ʿAlī related to us. He said: Abū al-Khaṭṭāb al-Jurjānī related to us. He said: I was with Abū Ḥanīfa in his gathering, with his companions around him. A boy or young man came and put a question to him. He answered it, and the youth said: “You are mistaken, Abū Ḥanīfa.” He remained silent. The youth put another question to him and he answered, and the youth said: “You are mistaken, Abū Ḥanīfa.” I said to the companions around him: “Glory be to God! Do you not honour and revere this shaykh? A young man or boy comes and declares him mistaken while you remain silent!” Abū Ḥanīfa turned to me and said: “Leave them; I have accustomed them to this from me.”
