al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥuṣayn

ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ḥātim Abū ʿUmar al-Marwazī related to us. He said: Yūsuf ibn Wāqid al-Ṣayqal related to us. He said: Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥuṣayn informed me, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Muntashir, from his father—God have mercy on them—from Anas ibn Mālik, God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, never extended his knees in front of someone sitting with him. No man sat with him and he then rose before that man rose. He never shook a man’s hand and withdrew his hand before the man withdrew his. I have never smelled a fragrance more pleasant than the fragrance of the Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace.

ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Balkhī related to us. He said: Shuʿayb ibn al-Layth related to us. He said: Hārūn ibn Hāshim related to us. He said: Yūsuf ibn Wāqid informed us. He said: Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥuṣayn related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, from a man, from Abū Saʿīd, God be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of God, God bless him and grant him peace, said: “There is no prayer after the afternoon prayer until the sun sets, and no prayer after the dawn prayer until the sun rises.”

Muḥammad ibn Qudāma related to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd related to us. He said: Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥuṣayn related to us, from Abū Ḥanīfa, from ʿAṭāʾ—God have mercy on them—who said: I asked Ibn ʿUmar, God be pleased with them both: “Is jihad an obligation?” He replied: “Yes.” I asked: “Is abandoning it unbelief?” He replied: “No; abandoning it is a sin.” I then went up to him and kissed his head.
