أخبرنا أحمد بن محمد، قال: قرأت في كتاب جعفر بن عنبسة بن عمرو، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا أيوب بن شعيب القزاز، قال: كنت عند مساور الوراق، فأتاه أبو حنيفة رحمة الله عليه فقال: بلغني أنك قد هجوتنا، ودفع إليه شيئاً في يده لم أثبته، فانشأ المساور من ساعته يقول: إذا الفقهاء يوماً خاصمونا ** بآبدة من الفتيا طريفة إلى آخر الأبيات، كذا في الكتاب.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad informed us: I read in the book of Jaʿfar ibn ʿAnbasa ibn ʿAmr: He said: My father related to us: Ayyūb ibn Shuʿayb al-Qazzāz related to us: I was with Musāwir al-Warrāq when Abū Ḥanīfa—may God have mercy on him—came to him and said, ‘I have heard that you have satirized us.’ He put something in his hand that I could not make out. Musāwir immediately began reciting: ‘When jurists one day dispute with us over an unusual, novel legal question …’ To the end of the verses. Thus it appears in the book.
The Arabic supplies only the opening verse and refers to the remainder; omitted verses are not added.
