وقيل لعبد الله بن طاهر: إن الناس يقدحون في أبي حنيفة، فقال عبدالله شعرا: ما على البحر وأمسى ز اخرا إن رمى فيه غلام بحجر.

ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṭāhir was told, “People disparage Abū Ḥanīfa.” ʿAbd Allāh replied in verse:

“What harm comes to the sea, overflowing as it is, if a boy throws a stone into it?”
